THE GOSPEL OF MARK

Join us in the Gospel of Mark through a sermon series centered on life, death, and resurrection of King Jesus. Our goal in this season leading up to Easter is to get low in order to lift high the name of Jesus Christ, the son of God–in the true story of the most significant event in world history. Mark’s gospel is the earliest of the four gospel accounts in scripture, and as such, it is simple and action-driven.

In the first half of the story, the authority of Jesus is set on full display as He ushers in the kingdom of God, driving out demons and healing the sick. As Jesus’ closest followers come to better understand who He truly is as the messiah, the narrative shifts to what kind of king Jesus is: one of humility, service, and sacrificial love–which we are still called to imitate as His disciples today.

In this series we want to humble ourselves before the Lord and be refreshed by the same Spirit the drove Jesus into the wilderness and the same Spirit by which He worked miracles. We want to obey Jesus’ command to deny ourselves, pick up our crosses, and follow Him (Mark 8:34). Our prayer is that by surrendering our all to King Jesus afresh, our eyes would be opened again to the glory of God and His continued work in the world.

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45)
